Lawson’s India Flap
By far, the biggest news this month on the Lawson front may be its most controversial. In conjunction with an announcement of some development layoffs, Lawson announced that, over the next 2 years, it plans to move some development jobs offshore to an as-yet-unnamed organization in India (see http://news.mpr.org/features/2003/09/22_horwichj_lawson/).

At CUE in April, I got to meet with some folks from Lawson’s technology group who are working on adding web services capabilities to Lawson. I truly believe this will change the way you work with Lawson some time in the not-so-distant future. Think I’m nuts?

Easy Does It

Making the Tough Go/No-Go Decisions
There was an interesting article in the Washington Post (10/13/02) recently about the abandoned conversion of the DC government’s payroll system. If you live in the DC area, you may remember a few years ago when this system was being cutover–there were stories in the paper and on the local TV news about people not being paid, and how the system was a mess, etc. etc.
In a nutshell, they’ve spent $20 million to replace their 33-year-old system, and have decided to just keep using the old system.
