Thought-Provoking Commentary for the Lawson Software Community
Cloudy with a Chance of Lawson?

I found this recent Lawson press release announcing the hire of a new VP to be curious. My initial thought was (seriously), what happened to Dean Hager?
With economic-driven staffing reductions, and layoffs at Lawson and other software vendors, isn’t this just another top-heavy exec? Then I started to peel back the layers, and it was even more intriguing:
His portfolio strategist approach to product management will be of great benefit to us, and because cloud computing is a high priority for our future, Jeff joins at a great time to lead our cloud strategy and serve as our principal spokesman on our cloud opportunities.
“Our cloud strategy”??? Does Lawson really have its head in the clouds?
Isn’t Harry Debes on record as saying that SaaS/Cloud is just a fad (see my eloquent post: https://blog.lawsonguru.com/2008/08/28/do-you-agree-with-harry/)
Probably “cloud cover” for his real job of improving analysts’ recommendation (considering that is Comport’s background) of Lawson. A prettier rating would be very valuable, and the “cloud” is the tickler for getting the ball rolling.
Regardless, Lawson does have one thing that’s going their way; the future of health-care is lined with regulatory actions that bode well for Lawson. Perhaps it’s a matter of “dumb luck” that they hold the leadership position in this growth industry, but look for it to tide them over for a long time.
